The Vegan Hood Chefs

These vegan chefs wish to feed the whole hood. Meet Rheema Calloway and Ronnishia Johnson, The Vegan Hood Chefs, who run a food truck and catering organization offering healthy vegan classics in San Francisco.

The duo are figured out to feed disenfranchised communities with accessible vegan food– like their oyster mushroom po' boys or hearts of palm crab cakes.

  1. Never understood why anyone would shy away from meat only to do their best to make everything they cook taste like it. 😂

    1. Cause vegans don’t want to harm animals or use their byproducts. It can look and taste like an animal but at the end of the day no animal got hurt in the process at all. Also here, they wanna make money so appealing to meat eaters make sense 🤷🏻‍♀️

    2. @gabbygabbygabbyoioioi So you love something so much aka animals that you want them nowhere near you. 😂 Imagine loving your partner so much that you only look at them from a distance! Make it make sense.

    3. @MiledHigh So y’all don’t believe that when you harvest plants you are killing them? Plant lives matter too. They are living cells with feelings! They hurt when you kill them. 🤣

    4. @gabbygabbygabbyoioioiit’ll blow your mind when you look into pest
      ⛽️ 💨 🐁 🐦 🦊 control for all the baby carrots y’all eat.

  2. What is the point of being vegan and “eating better” if you are bigger than your grandma that has diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol ⁉️

    1. Glad you used this as a opportunity to attack a Black business Women. Love the growth 😂

    2. you their doctor? how do you know this just by looking at them?? 🤔 fatphobia rots brains, you really be out here thinking you can armchair diagnose people with zero knowledge of their medical history

    3. @hitthisloudgbeforeichangem5749I’m a black business woman in medicine and I understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle because I represent a brand for my private practice. I don’t just talk the talk I walk the walk too. Not saying I’m perfect I just ate some donuts but I also get my cardio on. It seems this person isn’t attacking that she’s a black business woman but pointing out that being vegan should imply certain health markers and by appearances perhaps it’s a bit deceiving that their markers are skewed. There are healthy and unhealthy vegans. Some eat French fries, fried veggies and high carbs with some soy protein thrown in with lack of exercise and that’s a bad sell. There’s healthy meat eaters too that look much more lean and strong than these gyals. I actually came to the comments to see if anyone else was thinking a diet of veggies, fruits, dairy and animal protein free shouldn’t look like this! They are consuming too much of something I’m guessing sugar. It doesn’t look healthy!

  3. You’d be surprised why they are all overweight when eating “healthy”

    1. Veganism isn’t about eating healthy lol vegans simply don’t want to consume animals. Why is that so hard to understand?

  4. Thanks Munchies, you usually share fast food videos so comment section might be salty this time without even listening to lady on video. Whereas (Kî) She is very right in what she says.
I hope and believe they also have many dishes other than “meat looking and tasting” food

    1. Right! Please and thanks find non meat looking and tasting food, ragebait! 😂🤣

    2. I’d rather eat a rib-eye steak formed into a carrot vs a carrot formed into a burger patty. That’s just me 🤤 🥩 🩸 🐮

    3. @hvega8199crab cakes are mostly vegetables already so it’s really easy to make them with other proteins. I make some with chickpeas and they don’t taste like crab but have a similar look and texture so it’s a useful comparison. Also had some alligator ones in Australia once that were a solid 9/10

  5. I’m seventh day Adventist I’ve know about veganism forever y’all just took it to a whole different level and I enjoy it

  6. Let see if I get hated on 😅😅. Don’t see the point of using high processes oils and coating food in processed flour to make vegan food. Still at risk for disease.

    1. while you have a point, let’s not forget health isn’t the only reason why people go vegan! some people can still love unhealthy foods, heavy foods, soul foods etc but just don’t want to harm animals or they want to reduce their carbon footprint. otherwise i agree 🙂

    2. I thought I was tripping. Thank you for this comment. I don’t want to knock the business. But if I’m going vegan I want the body to show for it. Health wise not just visually. Whats the sense of going vegan if you’re still eating unhealthy? Fooling your brain into thinking it’s still meat?

    3. They’re on a journey and no doubt will keep evolving and seem open to experimenting….go well

    4. @Everybody_Loves_Ramen the point of being plant based is for health. Veganism is for the animals. People make fake meat because they think the taste is good but factory farming is bad. Did this answer your question?

  7. The amount of people who feel the need to hate on the creators of this business is mind-blowing to me. People hate on other people because they are hurting inside. These are successful women. What they do in their personal life isn’t your business. You don’t need to comment on it. This isn’t about them, it’s about their business and their message, which is beautiful and inclusive. Maybe those of you that feel the need to spew hate should open your ears to hear them.

  8. I am definitely coming to see you today, Jack London Square. Looking forward to trying your food. 😊yummy#keepitinmotion👑😎❤️❤️
