Southern-Style Stewed Chicken.
Ingredients.
* 1 pack household chicken thighs.
* Butter.
* 1 Lg onion.
* Salt.
* Pepper.
* Knorr chicken flavoring spices.
* Water.
Cover your chicken with water just enough to cover the top. Allow your chicken to boil on medium high heat for about one hour. You're water will reduce while cooking so keeping an eye on your water level.
Flour Slurry components:.
* Flour.
* water.
I do not use measurements … But attempt to make your slurry loose not really thick. When including your slurry continue blending while pouring it into the pot … so it will not develop into discarding.

I saw this video yesterday. I made it last night for dinner. My family smashed every bit of it. It was peace and quiet the rest of the evening. That’s a blessing because I am a mother of 10!! Thanks Ray!

@Octavia Evans just scrolling down these comments from Ray Mack’s delicious stewed chicken and saw yours. That’s cool that your name’s Octavia and you have 8 children. Now if your bday is in OCTober, the 8th month, that would be amazing
I followed this video and it came out so good that I’ve started calling him “Uncle Ray” (No, Ive never met him) 😂 Im an orphan and never had anyone teach me how to cook AND Im from the south so you know I want to know how to cook those HOME meals, so I appreciate you Uncle Ray for making these videos. God bless. ❤

🥰🥰🥰
I’ll never know exactly how youtube’s algorithm works, but I’m eternally grateful it brought me Ray Mack.
This stewed chicken thigh recipe is brilliant and I haven’t even made it yet. I want it over a big ol bowl of
buttered rice with green peas. If you throw some carrots in with the cooking chicken and serve it
all with a biscuit, you’ve got deconstructed chicken pot pie. Bless you, Ray Mack.
Just made this today! Sooooo good! I only made three thighs, though, as only one daughter and I eat meat. (Husband and other two are vegetarian.) So easy and so tasty! Thank you!
I made this the other day it’s always a southern classic, only changes I made was substituting the water for chicken stock, diced onion and fresh garlic
GoneIn Vegas: I am on board with everything, but I like to lightly browned my meat.
@Maxine Adderley how do you lighty brown your meat ? By using water ?
@Keydysha Staton : I do use about two tablespoons of olive oil, the desire is to make gravy, therefore it is not Brown enough to be eaten as is, just to get some colour and the bits in the pan for the gravy. If it’s rice that I am pairing with it. I do not like thick gravy. After that I sauteed bell peppers, at least three colours, onion, garlic, and rosemary and a dash of teriyaki sauce then add meat and about a cup of water or broth or sodium-free bullion. Simmer on medium heat for about 40 minutes. I usually season meat overnight or for as long as possible. If I am serving fried cabbage, I add few stalks of bok choy and some matchsticks carrots. I. prepare enough of the vegetables to add to it as well, I add the sauteed vegetables after the cabbage is almost done with bits browned piece, I added the vegetables for ten minutes. All of the vegetables are roughly chopped except for the carrots 🙏💕🌹😊
@Maxine Adderley That dish remix sounds DELICIOUS….
I followed Mack’s recipe to the T and it was DELICIOUS as well and FAST….lol. I’ll try your recipe when I’m not so eager to eat. Be well!
@Keydysha Staton you just put it in a pan and sear it a little till its brown just for some color
I’ve made this like 3 times and I’m getting ready to make it now. Every time it’s delicious. Thank you for this recipe.
There’s nothing like a man that can cook! Thank you for this! My hubby is going to love these dishes.👏🏽😎
I miss everything. My mom was a great southern cook. Her baked ham was unbelievable. Thanksgiving was a scrumptious feast. She could make a delicious meal out of whatever she had. A real Louisiana lady with a gift in the kitchen. My regret is not having gotten every recipe I loved from her before we lost her. She never measured anything. It was always, a pinch of this, a spoon if that, and season to suit your taste.
My grandma was a Texas woman who passed 5 years ago and I think of her all the time . Before she went she gave me her cornbread dressing and sugar cookie recipes ’cause she knew those were my favorites and she always made them for me when I came home on leave from the Marines . Then again , I was always her favorite ( he he , cousins were always mad at me )
My mom is the same. I don’t know how she does it.
@Eva Jones naw fr
I had a Grandmother who died in 1998 at 104 years old and she had a pound cake recipe that she had memorized. She never measured the ingredients and it was sublime.
I’m so sorry for your loss🙏🏾
Can we appreciate how he talks about his dear Momma throughout the video? That’s so sweet to me! 💖
🤢🤢🤮
Is best he don’t talk!
Yes! I love it!
Yes. I was thinking the same thing
Exactly he loves his mama thats a good thing
This is my grandma kind of throw down right here! Lord I miss that lady and her making me shell peas and pick fresh green beans for her to cook and then teach me how to freeze leftovers for another day! Thank you for sharing this old school/new school perspective on stewed chicken! Your videos are greatly appreciated!
Hey Ray, thanks for a great recipe! I made this the other night and it tasted great. It is pretty much the way I make chicken n’ dumplings but this is a wonderful version. I served mine over egg noodles. Because I generally like to incorporate vegetables into most of my dishes, I added celery and carrots as you mentioned in the video. I also like a little spice, so I added some Tony C’s as well. Thanks again and I plan on making more of your dishes.
That looks soooo good 💛
Trust me, it tastes even better than it looks! I make this on rotation with the family!
Aww this recipe reminds my of my mom’s cooking too :,) I miss her magic! She’d take any ingredient around the kitchen and make a wholesome, filling hot meal out of it… 🤤💜 Her ingenuity and love kept my family well fed and happy 💕
Watching this video transported me to a family reunion. I wasn’t watching a stranger…I was hanging out with family. Way to bring the vibes, brother. 🥰
And yes, my Mom made this too. She passed away a few months ago and watching your video brought her “back”. God bless and keep you. Thank you for sharing this.
I just finished making this recipe and it was a hit. I usually make yellow rice, but tonight the white rice was rocking. Also, I already had that seasoning. I love your recipes. Thanks a bunch and continued success! 👍🏾
I’ve made this twice and it turned out AMAZING! Even my picky children loved it. Another winner Ray. Thank you! ❤
Dude, that is uptown downtown home style cookin’ right there. My Mom was form Arkansas and she only made chicken 3 ways. Fried, stewed or chicken & dumpling’s and we done loved it all! Thanks for the memories Ray!
Yum this looks delicious. I love those seasoning that you can find at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx. I need to try this recipe. My mother was an excellent cook now she’s turning 88 and her seasoning is not as it use to but I love the fish in coconut sauce with chen chen (dominican grits).
