Nga Mihi Nui, Kia Ora, Oh hell yeah, love it when our beautiful country and my people are showcased, Whakawhetai Koe Matty.
Makes me proud of my culture, we aren’t much, but we do our best.
Aotearoa hard! 👊😎
💕 Arohanui 😎🙏
do you speak kiwi? or just know the basic phrases so it makes you seem native lmao (answer = you don’t know anything it’s just a show)
@emu_warriorbuddy, who hurt you? It’s called Maori, not kiwi. Quit being ignorant. You ain’t cool.
you sounds upset. go have a nap, child @takes9386
@emu_warrior

As a kiwi, them mussels are just on another level back at home. Them things are massive! Everywhere else in the world just serve tiny tiny baby mussels. 😂😂😂
As an Apple I agree with you, but now I’ll have to charge you for giving you my opinion.
@avpr1574aaaaah good point. Oops! 🫢🫢
@UuU1001.but as a kiwi, I invite us salad friends to discuss! 😅
Bigger here in Barcelona
@AOZORAHENNESSY now i know for sure that ain’t true. Why you ask? Because I used to live in Barcelona. 😅 I miss that place. But for sure, did not have bigger mussels I guarantee you.
This is by far the best episode of DSOL. Matty is a gem and the Maori people are a treasure as well.
How old is this do you reckon? It says just uploaded, but he says in this he stopped drugs and alcohol 3 and a half years ago and I’m pretty sure he’s been sober longer than that now.
@jaxongrant1shits from like 2017 lol
@axelg5 Haha yepp. Sounds about right.
From 2017 he left vice in 20q8 do make his own channel …vice changes the title an reuploads his old shows for content n views cause they suck an have no content
Vice filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back n mid May this year hence the reupload & a few bonus takes
Matty with mad respect for yet another indigenous culture. This made me smile.
What do you mean indigenous
Maori culture isnt that strong in new zealand as he portrays it.
@HenryW1234 Indigenous means the people of the land. Or as we say here in Aotearoa: Tangata Whenua (people of the land). They were here before the Europeans came and colonised. It’s not as strong as it once was because of colonisation… You know, the usual stuff, oppression, land theft, restriction of language, etc, but despite that, Maori have kept fighting and now we are in the process of decolonisation: we have a long way to go!!!! But the language is being revived, hopefully our children will have to learn it throughout school soon. The truth of NZ’s history is being more widely acknowledged, and people are fighting for Maori rights – land rights and more… We have a lot of work to do! Anyway, the point is that Maori are Aotearoa (new Zealand) indigenous people.
p.s. when I say we have a lot of work to do i am speaking as a Pakeha Kiwi! (not tangata whenua)
@HenryW1234 you live in auckland son obviously never visited the east coast.
What a fantastic episode.. cheers Matty and the crew.
Big respect for the Maori people and New Zealand as a whole
Much love from us neighbours in australia
Old episode from 2017
@jaybeazy4978 Bro chill, nobody likes the ackshually guy 🤓
whaddayehtallkenabheeeeet?
W name
I wonder how many kiwis shouted AUE! at their computer screens during Tu Tira Mai Ngā Iwi. I know I did 😂
Do you mean Maori?
Or Kiwi?
Because I’m Kiwi and I know basically no Maori.
So, can’t relate
@RagnarokPKXDok but as you well know, plenty of pakeha do speak some te reo
@redbirddeerjazz Yes, but I still cannot personally relate as in my own personal life I know 0 Kiwi who speak any Maori
@RagnarokPKXD I assume you mean pakeha because kiwi includes māori
@redbirddeerjazz No?
Kiwi means
A New Zealander.
So this includes, More than just Pakeha and Maori.
You could literally be Chinese descent. Born in NZ and you’re a Kiwi
UP THE WAHS – I bet uncle was proud of the boys this year
Big aroha Matty for showcasing our home and culture to the world with such respect. You are truly a great man!
You’re happy shown as overweight unhealthy people?
@MasterChief37get a life dude wtf
@thesupersonicjaws tell me I’m wrong? Why showcase a bunch of fat unhealthy people who will die young?
I wish this became a whole New Zealand series. Felt that OG Matty content, food, family friends and unbearable amounts of laughter
yes please
This is OG Matty, this ep is from 2017 whole different feel these days aye
@josh.bollen woah so this was an old video haha
100% agree!!!
Unbearable amounts of obesity
You know, if my NZ experience is anything like a normal one this dudes entire video could have been people he met on the plane ride over! Frigging awesome people! So kind and generous and trusting! I was invited to dinner by multiple families, held babies, was invited to join a great walk, my travel itinerary was developed by people passing around a map on the plane! Then we landed in Auckland and people called and made sure we were doing well as we traveled for the month in a campervan. Absolutely the best trip of my life! So many amazing beautiful people!
Can’t wait to have you back !
Welcome back anytime.❤
ka kite anō (see you next time!)
haere mai! (welcome) 🙂
Fantastic to hear. Hopefully you can pay it forward to visitors in your country. We can all learn from each other.
This vid makes me appreciate my heritage and country even more. Dude is full of love, respect and genuine awe of people around the world.
Wow I’ve watched Matty for such a long time and for him to travel to my country and get to know my culture is so heartwarming I never thought this day would come tbh but here we are much respect
fax
Your country ? Cuzzie stoo
@mhutch5082 what are you on about
hes been here before a couple times, but its good to see him back after watching him in the bear
Mean bro😂❤ i just seen this on my reccomendations coz im māori😂
I love seeing Matty travel somewhere like Aotearoa. Though butchering a lot of the language he gave it a shot and by the looks he enjoyed his time in kiwi. I hope he does a little more travelling around. Being from the north island and seeing places that I had tracked to with whanau and friends…. Made me miss home but smile massively. Much love matty keep it up bro
Us kiwis butcher every other language under the sun so no big deal😂
You are butchering reo Māori by using that kupu incorrectly anyway e hoa 🙄. There is a bird, there is Pākeha and there is tangata whenua.
@shanemacgregor8261 ah you have a point…
@punkybrewstar83 I mean fair… sorry I’m a New Zealander that has spent most of my life in Australia… most of us use kiwi instead of New Zealand just to make our live a little easier… I meant no disrespect. I have a couple of issues with your disrespect but that’s neither here nor there
@HuntnKati’m a new zealander who’s lived in aus for a pretty long time and i’m not sure what part of aus you’re in but i’ve never heard the country be referred to as “kiwi”
Working in a hotel you meet people from around the world but Kiwi’s are without a doubt some of the coolest people around. They always have a crazy story to tell and they usually tip well. I hope I get to visit Rotorua one day.
As a Maori also from NZ, I am even more glad to see your Content when you drop New videos. Respect for what you do brother. I wish i knew you were visiting brother, LetsGooo
Let me guess, only a Maori when it comes to roll time, dole time and hand outs? Don’t see you out there living in your little mud hut and dancing with ferns. Fake af.
This must have been an amazing video for you. Love NZ, kia ora bro.
@alank1220 Kia Ora Ehoa. Yeah its amazing to see alot of content creators Coming over for good things.

Ataahua as Matty, thanks for coming and visiting – you’re awesome!
this is the most authentic representation of Maori kai i’ve ever seen to do with a celebrity. Matty cuz, I was already a fan, but now i’m an even bigger fan. Thank you for showing our culture this much love and respect. My hat off to you budda
Authentic because they’re all fat 😅
you’ll like the Gordon ramsey one also then
Pope OP hahahaha love you rp streams
It’s crazy to see how many ingredients aren’t from New Zealand too. Corn, squash, potatoes, yams, they’re all from North America. To be specific, they are crops that were developed by indigenous First Nations in what is now Canada, the US and Mexico. And then of course there is mutton and pork, as anything with 4 legs and fur isn’t from New Zealand either. But that’s what culture and cuisine are- change. Change with the times, change with the circumstance. As a Canadian of first nations ethnicity, it’s beautiful to see the crops we cultivated, that were then stolen/adopted by Europeans, nourish another indigenous group halfway across the world. Meegwetch.
@K1ddkanuckMāori killed all the mega fauna (moa, hasts eagle) so there are no large native animals to eat in NZ anymore. They have to use what we have today.
I do like his steamers, that’s removed my main issue with hangi food, in ground hangi food always tastes like dirt.
4:09 that garden is strikingly beautiful. Good on you, Matt and crew, for highlighting a damn interesting people and place.
Seeing an American show more respect to Maori culture than our current government is quite something…
Kapai, Matty
