Big Batch Orange Ginger Hot Toddy

Yield: 6 to 8 portions

Active ingredients

6 cups distilled water
1 orange
15 whole cloves
1/2 cup honey
2 cinnamon sticks
One 2-inch piece fresh ginger, cut into coins
2 cups whiskey

Directions

Heat the water in a medium pan over medium-high heat.

Utilize a vegetable peeler to get rid of 2 large strips of orange peel. Pierce the peels with the whole cloves and set aside. Squeeze the juice of the orange, about 1/4 cup.

Include the orange juice, honey, cinnamon sticks, sliced up ginger and the orange peel with cloves to the saucepan and give a simmer, stirring sometimes, about 3 minutes. As soon as the liquid is simmering, add the scotch, then switch off the heat.

Ladle into glass mugs and serve right away. Alternatively, keep warm on extremely low heat on the stovetop or in a slow cooker on low heat. Garnish with additional orange peel.

  7. Ha I have been told for many years that the heat will destroy the benefits of honey, so it should never be boiled. Same as vitamin C in orange. I think the honey should be added with the whiskey, after it has been removed from heat.
