This soup is full of the great things and loads a punch with flavour. Truly easy to make, it's hearty and reassuring and something a little bit various from your standard winter warmer.
I am in houston, and it is extremely difficult to find Mulligatawny in restaurants, even though we have a perfectly enormous Indo/Pak community. Truly, I love this soup. It is odd that so few restaurants serve it here. Thank you.👍🏻💯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗🤗🤗💐🫶🏻🇺🇸
@turtle_enthousiast I think it is generally spicy. It comes from two Tamil words: “Milagu” (pepper) and “tanni” (water) = pepper water. It is a curry flavored soup enjoyed by the British during the British Raj, 1858-1947. It is related to the Indian soup called Rasam. The soup was first made for British Soldiers, it is said, who refused to alter their way of eating demanding a soup at the start of the meal. The simpler versions have chicken or mutton, fried onions and spices and there are many more complex versions with many ingredients. Including lentils.
Mulligatawny: fragrant Indian soup that’s filling and warming on a chilly Autumn day, perfect if you’re calorie counting or following plans like Weight Watchers! Cheers, Domenico.
BRAVO!!! FINALLY something withOUT any bell pepper in it!!! I’m very allergic to bell peppers and I don’t even like the flavour of them at all so it is a total delight to see a recipe like this one!!! THANK YOU!!!
I don’t like bell peppers as well but not because I am allergic. It’s because of the taste/flavor. Especially Green bell peppers because unlike Red peppers since they are sweet and ripe, Green peppers are unripe and got a slightly spicy and sour (?). I do love pizza with red bell peppers but not with green ones.
For anyone wondering, mulligatawny originates from Tamilnadu, a state in south India – “milagu” and “tanni” which translates to pepper-water. This is Jamie’s take on the dish and far from how it’s actually made but it does seem like a hearty soup nonetheless!
Love to see you with this recipe Chef

It started from South India – the name derives from two Tamil words which mean Pepper and Water!

Rice — bad idea for this soup, I mean 🙂
He really needs to learn to wash the rice now there’s dust and bacteria on it so gross

Awesome veggie type soup.
This looks amazing, going to try it, thanx Jamie. Grated butternut/pumpkin in salads is also delicious!
I have never used a curry paste. Can you recommend one for me, Chef? This looks amazing!
I loved this Mulligatawny Soup video, it’s a great way to use up all of those leftovers. Thanks for sharing!
