Ingredients.
2/3 cup split black gram with skin (chilkewali urad dal), soaked for 4 hours.
1/3 cup split Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked for 4 hours.
Salt to taste.
1/4 tsp turmeric powder.
1 big onion.
1 large tomato.
1 1/2 inch ginger piece.
5-6 garlic cloves.
2 tablespoons pure ghee.
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing).
1 tsp red chilli powder.
1/2 tsp garam masala powder.
Method.
1. Heat a pressure cooker. Drain and include split black gram, split Bengal gram, salt, turmeric powder and 4 cups water and mix. Close the cooker with the lid and cook under pressure on low heat till 4 whistles are given out.
2. Carefully slice onion, tomato and ginger. Roughly chop garlic.
3. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add onion, garlic and ginger and saute for 2 minutes. Add asafoetida and tomatoes and continue to saute till aromatic.
4. When the pressure is entirely minimized, open the cover of the cooker and gently mash the grams.
5. Include red chilli powder and garam masala powder to the pan and mix well.
6. Include a little prepared grams to the pan and mix well. Include this mixture to the grams staying in the pressure cooker and cook till the grams are totally soft and velvety.
7. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot with paranthe.
