I’m from a tiny town in Texas with no Japanese restaurants for 100 miles, and I always assumed you were supposed to eat sushi with chopsticks. The first time I actually had it was with my wife, a Japanese guy I served with and his wife. I asked the waitress for chopsticks, and his wife said “No, you don’t need that. Sushi is finger food silly.” Lol it was good advice I guess because I’ve never used chopsticks to eat it, and no one’s ever said anything to me about it.
