Can You Elevate Boxed Mac and Cheese?!? | Next Level Kitchen

Boxed Mac and Cheese is an institution … but can it be taken to the Next Level? Richard Blais is taking that box and elevating it the only method he understands how: with remaining steak and crisped potato chips. Meanwhile, Nyesha Arrington is making a classic baked Creamy Mac and Cheese, much like her household makes in the house. The ideal meal for your Easter weekend, the concern is, what Mac and Cheese are you making?

Kosher salt.

* Sauce *.
2 1/2 tablespoons butter.
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour.
2 1/4 cups warm entire milk.

3 1/2 cups shredded cheese, such as comté, white cheddar and gruyere.

* Assembly *.
2 cups bread crumbs.
2 tablespoons melted butter.
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley.
1 tablespoon finely chopped rosemary.
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme.

* PROCEDURE *.
1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 ℉. Butter a 2 1⁄2- quart casserole meal or cast iron skillet.

2. Cook the macaroni in salted water till al dente according to the package instructions. Drain pipes in a colander and set aside.

3. Melt 2 1⁄2 tablespoons of butter in a big pan over medium heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, till the mix is pale yellow and frothy, about 2 minutes. Do not allow it to brown. Gradually whisk in the warm milk and continue to blend till the sauce pertains to a boil and thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, 2 to 3 minutes. Season with the salt and nutmeg.

4. Lower the heat to very low, add 1/3 of the cheese, and stir up until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth. Add the pasta to the pan and stir until it is totally covered in the sauce. Include another 1/3 of the cheese and stir until completely melted. Put the mix into the prepared baking dish and spray the staying 1/3 of cheese over the top.

5. In a little mixing bowl integrate the bread crumbs and melted butter.
Sprinkle the breadcrumbs throughout the top of the dish and bake until the casserole is warmed through and the top is lightly browned, about thirty minutes. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving warm. Additionally, you can toast the breadcrumbs individually and spray on top of the meal without baking.

6. Garnish with the fresh herbs prior to serving.

  1. Dude I was eating box mac & cheese when I saw the notification for this video 😅

  2. 0:30 “Let’s talk about the perfect cheese!” – I didn’t hear any cheeses named. 😑

  3. They should do an episode with boxed foods to elevate it to the next level. Not gonna lie, Richard’s looks to be too much.

  4. “I have some bacon left over from breakfast.” SAID NO ONE EVER 😂

  5. Haven’t watched the video yet but honestly the mac and cheese ready meal I get from tesco I fine dice mature cheddar throw that in once its hot, stir through some truffle oil and black pepper… absolutely banging. Throw some chives on there if you need 1 of your 5 a day 😂

  6. ok, Blais, Super unfair adding Steak! So I have to give it to Nyesha her “levels” and Mornay sauce was perfect! and always super classic to serve in Cast Iron,. Blais cooking box mac in milk sounds yummy, but really your cooking in all that unwanted starch to take it from saucy and cheesy to starchy and goopy, but I did love the potato chips and butter on top and the torch definitely made it next level ! Great work guys, I hate you both! for making me Jones for mac n cheese!

    1. He turned the crushed potato chips black with the blow torch & wound up covering the entire dish with charcoal! Her mac and cheese was a million miles better – there;s no comparison between the dogs dinner he served up, and her classy, classic, home cooked version made from scratch.

      Simple is always best – he pimped his M&C so much adding bacon, steak slices, (burnt) potato chips and chives, it would be an assault on your taste buds!

    2. @Glamdolly30 Wow! so tell us how you really feel. I thought I was harsh lmao

  7. Jesus man, at this point Jamie Oliver makes better cooking videos, since he actually shows up in the damn video.

  8. I like to make boxed macaroni and cheese with vegetables and tuna or chicken and then the next day put it in a nonstick pan and cook it on very low heat. This removes a lot of moisture and the macaroni separates into individual pieces and the flavors intensified. It takes a long time but it’s very inexpensive and is one of my favorite ways to cook macaroni and cheese.

  9. Nyesha’s version is exactly how I make my mac and cheese, so I guess my vote is for her. However, the chips and steak on Richard’s made me drool lol

  10. I like to improve boxed mac and cheese by using Kerrygold butter and heavy cream instead of milk. Add some shredded cheddar and it’s basically perfect.

  11. If he says “ooey, gooey, stretchy and chewy” one more time I’ll end it all

  12. Nyesha won that. Simple, classic. Bacon was one thing for Richard but he killed it with the non bite size steak
