  10. I’m a 57 yr old American of Mexican descent. I grew up in a family of 6 kids. My grandmother/abuelita had 6 kids. She moved from Texas to Michigan with my mom (the eldest) and her sister from a husband who abondoned them in the late1930s. This was before there were child support laws. She made tacos for working men to support my mom & sister. Mom & sis learned to help and became good cooks. She eventually opened the first store “tienda” in Grand Rapids, MI. She remarried and had 4 more kids. She sold her taco meat recipe to a local legend in Michigan “The Beltline Bar”…arguably the inventor of the wet burrito. I just wanted to say that her taco meat recipe was simple and of course the staple of many Tex-Mex dishes.

All you need for spices are cumin, salt and pepper. The rest are white or Spanish onion, chopped garlic and a can of tomato sauce. Here she says the chili powder gives it the color of packet mixes..NO, its the tomato sauce plus it adds flavor. I have posted for years to skip the packets and the additives for these simple ingredients, it only seems others are picking up.

    1. I agree! My grandmother rented a room to a lady from Juarez during WWII to help with the mortgage. Part of the agreement was teaching my grandmother to speak Spanish and to cook real Mexican food. That lady added either potatoes or frijoles to her mix (I like the frijoles) to keep the mix from falling out of the shell. But the spices were simple – salt, pepper, chili powder.

    2. @alicesullivan4089 My mom mad a dish with the taco meat seasonings but added potatoes or green beans and called it picadillo or carne picada. It was a little soupier and went great with refried beans and tortillas.

    3. I’m 80% Cajun & a home cook. Learned from trial & error. I’ve never bought a seasoning packet in my life. My margarita is white tequila, cointreau & fresh lime juice. 1 shot glass of tequila & 1/2 shot glass of Cointreau. Add lime. Close up & shake. Add to a rocks glass.

  11. This lady not only has the BEST recipe channel on YouTube…. She also has the best tips and tricks, the best hacks, the best simplicity, the best clarity…. And what I like most about her is she is blunt and to the point, which makes her have the best personality! I start out thinking I will watch one or two of her videos when they appear in my feed. The next thing I know my queue is filled with her videos and I never get to other things in my queue. I also end up saving alot of her videos to show my husband, to help him out with certain things he cooks. I hope Nicole never goes away! Keep up the great work!
