  5. Here’s what I’ve noticed. I watched are they still open so like 8-10 past years of the show. I noticed like 80-90% closed and of those most closed within a month or so after the airing of the show. What I think happens is if the restaurant is really gross at first and the owners or people running it are really mean that’s what people remember and are really less likely to stop in even if things have changed and the food is better. It’s kinda a catch 22 you’ve got one of the most iconic Chefs in the world, and that creates buzz, but then if the owners and the food is disgusting well it’s really hard to see past it.

    1. He was much more professional and toned-down in the UK version, I wonder if there was any difference in the success rate across the pond.

  8. My last girlfriend was a food inspector in Edmonton Ab. When I asked her out, she said we can cook at home. The average place your eating out at is disgusting, fyi.

    2. As someone who works in the restaurant industry for 20 years. You are absolutely correct. Not everyone or every restaurant is like that but majority are. Some people like me actually take care to not cross contaminate and constantly clean. However 1-3 people can’t do everything it takes a team working together and pulling equal weight to have things right. Usually the higher class a restaurant is the cleaner it is. One place I used to work at before the building was condemned had millions of roaches behind the walls. They didn’t have the budget to take care of it. One time I was washing the floors and accidentally got an outlet wet. It threw sparks and then I watched hundreds of roaches come running out of the wall socket. So disgusting.

    3. I knew someone who was a cook, and he worked at various restaurants (including a fine-dining one in Hawaii), and he told me how they all cut corners on cleanliness. He said, “If I told you what goes on behind the scenes of a restaurant, you would never eat out again.”

  10. I feel like most people get him to come so they can get a renovation and try to get more money out of the place when they inevitably fail 1-3 months after the show airs.

  15. I’ve seen worse in my 6 years of being a chef and being a owner of a cafe this place should just close down or sale it to someone who knows what they are doing
