Janmashtami Special Thali | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Janmashtami events are incomplete without an adoringly ready bhog for Kanha ji.

From choosing his preferred meals to preparing them with care, every little step makes the event feel more unique.

This Janmashtami, commemorate the tradition with a bhog made with love and devotion.

Recipe -.
Makhana Kheer.
Ingredients.

1 cup puffed lotus seeds (makhana).
1 litre milk.
2 tablespoons ghee.
1/2 cup sugar.
1/2 tsp green cardamom powder.
6-7 saffron hairs.
Blanched and slivered pistachios for garnish.

Method.

1. Boil milk in a deep nonstick pan till it lowers to half of it's initial volume.
2. Heat ghee in a nonstick pan. Include puffed lotus seeds and sauté till crisp.
3. Add to the decreased milk, sugarcoat, green cardamom powder and saffron and cook till sugar melts.
4. Garnish with pistachios and serve warm.

  1. MAKHAN MISHRI

    Ingredients

    ½ cup ghee
    2 tbsps crushed rock sugar (mishri)
    8-10 saffron strands
    Slivered pistachios for garnish

    Method

    1. Take ghee in a plate, add a few ice cubes and beat well with hands till ghee turns white. Drain out excess water, add crushed rock sugar and mix well.
    2. Transfer in serving bowl, sprinkle saffron, garnish with pistachios and serve.

    PANCHAMRIT

    Ingredients

    1 tbsp honey
    2 tbsps ghee
    4 tbsps sugar
    8 tbsps yogurt
    16 tbsps milk
    1 holy basil leaf

    Method

    1. Mix honey, ghee, sugar, yogurt and milk in a bowl till well combined.
    2. Place a holy basil leaf on top and serve.

    DHANIYA PANJIRI

    Ingredients

    ¾ cup coriander seeds
    3 tbsps + 1 tsp ghee
    3-4 tbsps chopped almonds
    3-4 tbsps chopped cashew nuts
    2 tbsps melon seeds
    2 tbsps chironji
    ½ cup broken puffed lotus seeds (makhana)
    ½ cup grated dried coconut
    ½ cup powdered sugar
    ½ tsp green cardamom powder

    Method

    1. Dry roast coriander seeds in a non-stick pan for 2-3 minutes. Transfer on a plate and allow to cool.
    2. Heat 2 tbsps ghee in the same pan, add almonds, cashew nuts, melon seeds, and chironji and roast till golden brown. Transfer the mixture into a large bowl and allow to cool.
    3. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in the same pan, add puffed lotus seeds and roast on medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Transfer in the same bowl and allow to cool.
    4. Dry roast the dried coconut in the same pan on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
    5. Put the coriander seeds in a grinder jar and grind to a fine powder.
    6. Heat remaining ghee in the same pan, add the ground coriander seeds and roast for 1-2 minutes. Transfer in the same bowl and allow to cool completely.
    7. Add powdered sugar, green cardamom powder, and mix well.
    8. Serve.
