Avgolemono is a Greek word that equates actually to egg-lemon and is really both a soup and a sauce. The meal most familiar to North Americans is a basic, comforting, and nourishing soup traditionally made from chicken broth, rice, lemon juice, and eggs. Nicole reveals you how to make her variation of this Greek timeless with added chicken, onion, and garlic, topped with fresh dill and parsley, and served with crusty bread.

Avgolemono is actually the egg and lemon mixture. Not the soup.
The soup is called kotosoupa which means chicken soup.
We use avgolemono in other soups like psarosoupa (fish soup) and vrasto (patatos carrots and beef soup) and other recipies like laxanontolmades (cabbage stuffed with meat and rice)
Greeting from Greece!!
Hi, Monica.
I love Greece, been Five times.
Thanks for your comment, it cleared something up for me.
At my favorite Greek restaurant, I get waited on by a pleasant Greek woman who is middle-aged.
I Always order Avgolemono soup, and when I do, she answers “Chicken soup.”
Now, Thanks to you, I know why.
Stay Well. Long Live Greece….
@Sea Dog I hope you have the opportunity to come back to Greece again.
@monika tsialou Thanks.
I will, for Sure.
My Greek nickname is “Leondara,” which I’m told means “Lion.”
Please, how is it spelled?
Thank You.
@Sea Dog in Greek lion is Λιοντάρι (liontari)
@monika tsialou Thank You.

Thank You Nicole for the easiest Avgolemono soup recipe I’ve seen. I have a few Greek friends that will be surprised when I make this soup for them, and “YES” I’m with you… Add the onions! OPA!
Hi, new sub here.
An Observation: I absolutely love Avgo Lemono soup, have for over 50 years.
Over the years, I have researched quite a number of recipes for this soup, and found ALL of them waay tooo laborious to even attempt the recipie, unless, perhaps, you are snowed in by 12 feet of snow and have all the ingredients.
Your recipie is Great, Realistic and sure to yield the
Real Deal.
Thanks!
You’re talented, for sure.
This sounds amazing! I always add lemon to my chicken noodle soup, but this is most definitely next level. Even with the days getting hotter here (Arizona) I’m making this!
Oh! Thank you for showing us this can be so simple! Love you, Nicole! OPA, indeed!
My pappou would use Greek orzo or some kind of small noodles that look like shells.
Very nice cooking👍
Hi Nicole! I would love for you to teach us how to make French Onion soup! I always order it when I’m at a restaurant that offers it. It is so good! I wish I knew how to make it at home!! Thanks!
😊❤️
opa, the recipe is easy and delicious. One more of your delicious bites. Keep up the good work. I love watching you.
Love your videos and easy to follow recipes. I can never make scalloped potatoes or potatoes o’gratin. Mine never turns out right, either too dry or too greasy runny. Not good. My son keeps requesting I make this dish but I got nothing! Please show me how to make it delicious! Also, I had a favorite restaurant in New Orleans that is now gone, that used to make the best shrimp o’gratin. Please attempt this too. And they used a white cheese in the sauce! Yummy!
OMG 🤤🤤🤤
Wow! This looks absolutely amazing, so delicious and flavorful. 💕Stay Blessed and stay connected!💕
