Here in Oklahoma, my family tends to omit the egg in our okra, and let the mucilage stick the corn meal to the okra. We also tend to salt after frying. I’m interested in trying your method though!

Steaming artichokes is so dull. If you peel more of the tough outer leaves, it’s nicer to saute them with olive oil, garlic and parsley. The artichoke will discolour your hands so wear gloves. Quarter and remove the choke before sauteing for 15-20min
