GOAN FISH CURRY

Active ingredients

2 medium pomfrets, cut into darnes
Salt to taste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup scraped fresh coconut
3-4 dried red chillies, stemmed
2 green chillies, slit
1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
5-6 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon coriander seeds
6-8 black peppercorns
2 tbsps oil
1 medium onion, sliced
Salt to taste
1/2 cup coconut milk
Fresh coriander sprig for garnish
Red rice for serving

Approach

1. Marinate the pomfret darnes with salt, turmeric powder and lemon juice for 10 minutes.
2. Take a grinder jar. Add scraped coconut, dried red chillies, green chillies, ginger, garlic, coriander seeds and black peppercorns. Include 3/4 cup water and grind to great paste.
3. Heat oil in a deep nonstick pan. Include onion and sauté till golden brown. Add ready paste and sauté till oil separates.
4. Add 1 1/2 cups water, salt and once the mixture comes to a boil, lower the heat, add fish darnes, cover and cook for 5-6 minutes. Include coconut milk and cook for a minute more.
5. Transfer in a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with red rice.
