Prawn Mappas | प्रॉन मापास | Chemmeen Mappas | Prawn in Coconut Milk Curry | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Prawn Mappas is a conventional meal from the Indian state of Kerala, made with prawns in a rich and spicy coconut milk sauce. It is a popular seafood meal that is frequently enjoyed with steamed rice. The prawns are prepared in a mix of spices and coconut milk, resulting in a delicious and scrumptious dish. When visitors come over, count Prawn Mappas as one brand-new dish to prepare. All will like this Keralite prawn curry that is rather tasty and creamy.

PRAWNS MAPPAS

Ingredients

16-20 medium prawns, peeled and deveined
2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 tsps chopped ginger
1 tbsp sliced garlic
2-3 green chillies, slit
2 medium onions, sliced
15-20 shallots, sliced
4-5 dried red chillies, stemmed
1 tsp garam masala powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp fennel powder
1/2 tsp crushed black peppercorns
3-4 fish tamarind pieces (kudampuli).
1 big tomato, cut into wedges.
1 cup thin coconut milk.
8-10 curry leaves.
Salt to taste.
1/2 cup thick coconut milk.
Steamed rice for serving.

Technique.

1. Heat coconut oil in a pan. Include mustard seeds and as soon as they start to splutter, add ginger, garlic, green chillies and sauté for 30 seconds.
2. Include onions and sauté till translucent. Add shallots and sauté for 2-3 minutes on medium heat.
3. Add dried red chillies and mix well. Include prawns and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes.
4. Add garam masala powder, turmeric powder, fennel powder, crushed black peppercorns and mix well.
5. Add fish tamarind pieces, tomato and sauté for a minute.
6. Add thin coconut milk, curry leaves and enable the mix to come to a boil.
7. Add salt, thick coconut milk and mix well. Prepare for 2 minutes.
8. Transfer in a serving bowl, and serve hot with steamed rice.
