I am 78 years old..
My mom made cinnamon toast for me when i was a kid until i was old enough to make it. We had a gas oven…it didnt take long when you put it under the broiler. I still love them with milk or tea or coffee.
Good memories. ❤❤
I made nachos one on one….refried beans, cheese and jalapeños on top. Eash one done individually. All that wirk and they were gone ASAP….but so much better.
We made cinnamon toast by spreading the butter/margarine on the bread, sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture on the bread and we put them in the broiler. So good. We had those for breakfast.
At 79 my mom did the
Same gas stove and all You learned to cook early. I enjoy cooking and still do. I don’t drink it often now since my husband passed away. I do cook when my grandchildren and my grandchildren and over. I let them help and they enjoy it. So I’m passing down memories and they are having fun. Have a blessed day.
I’m about 5 years younger than you but you reminded me of something funny that I haven’t thought of in decades. The first time I made my own cinnamon toast, I was about 9. I remember my mother coming into the kitchen just as I was taking it out of the oven. She had a way of exaggerating that was hilarious but got her point across without fussing at me. When she saw my toast (and the mess I’d made), she said, “My goodness, Rhonda! 😳 You’re not supposed to use a whole stick of butter on each slice of bread!” 😂 I think I came pretty close to a whole stick for the 2 slices I made! 😆 But it was so good!
Growing up in the 70s my Mom made dip with 16 Oz. Sour cream and 1 pkg. of onion soup mix for every party. 😊
Awesome mom! 👌
16 oz of sour cream to one pkg of soup mix
Still one of our favorites!
@Lynn_QuiltsYes! You are correct! 🤦♀️
Same!!!
Cinnamon Toast is commonly referred to as “Poor Man’s Food”, yet it was so darn delicious, especially when the sugar and cinnamon form a nize glaze that hardens as it cools. Nothing like waking up for school and smelling cinnamon down the hallway.
Never heard it called that. Where do they use that phrase?
I’m 74 and we used to take the Pillsbury biscuits, had to be Pillsbury, flatten them out, and make mini pizzas. Oh to be young again!
Mom used halves of English muffins!
@BethKujawskimine too as a snack after a day in high school
@danasiler2576 We’d have them for dinner. Mom would make a meat sauce and pile ’em with cheese. They were filling!
@BethKujawskiyes! Still a fave with my daughter & grandsons!
We did have fun
Bring back the pudding pops and Orange Julius!
If you have a Dairy Queen they have orange Julius on their menu
Minnesota still has orange julius, with DQ.But you can make copy cat Nicole’s recipe😊
Can’t have a slumber party without chips and French onion dip!
Sweet memories 😊
Exactly! Standard stuff!
Green onion dip for me
I ate peanut butter on Granny Smith apples when I was growing up.
My grandchildren love that now. Also Granny Smith
Peanut butter is good on just about any Apple! 🍎 I know because I’ve tried a lot of them!
Girl Scout Walking Salad in the 70’s—Cored red apple filled with peanut butter and raisins covering the hole at the top. Brought it back to my kids in the 90’s and they thought I was a genius.
Saltines and peanut butter plus Nestle’s Quik chocolate milk, every day after school! (1960’s)
I miss the original Nestle’s Quik containers with the lid that had to be pried off with a spoon!😊
When you recovered from stomach flu in my house, you got a cup of tea with a slice of cinnamon toast from mom. Cinnamon toast is a food hug memory.
And I got poached eggs on toast. Still doing that if anyone was ever under the weather!!! Cinnamon toast is my daughters favourite
My mother gave you a glass of flat 7-up, if you could keep that down, then you got a cracker or dry toast. Then you got a bowl of potato soup.
Yeah same
@jjudy5869yeah same depends if it’s a cold or vomiting
You are my all time favourite of all recipe content producers- thx
Which snack did we miss?
Potato chips dipped in peanut butter – addictive.
My mom used to make graham crackers spread with peanut butter. Then she would make icing and drizzle it on top. Now I make it for my grandchildren on family movie nights and they think I’m a genius. Lol
Corn dogs or (cdn) pogos.
Cheese and crackers. Ritz is best.
Grilled cheese or if you’re Polish an open-faced sammie with shredded mushrooms and cheese…melted until golden delicious.
Mozzarella sticks.
Ramen or we called it Chinese 😊noodles (with eggs and butter beaten in).
If you’re Polish…tomatoes with sour cream eaten with bread and butter.
Ps: if you sprinkle a peanut butter sammie with (brown) sugar it won’t stick to the roof of your mouth.
Nicole, when I was pregnant, I craved peanut butter and mustard on a saltine cracker. I still eat them all the time. You have made me miss the 80s soooo much lol.
We loved when mom made us graham crackers with homemade icing made of powdered sugar and milk. They were delightful.
Sometimes the simplest stuff is the best stuff. Miss the 80’s.
Class of 89 here and I approve of this message 👊🏻❤️😋
Class of ‘89 too!
85 😊
My mom would take her leftover homemade pie dough & roll it up, sprinkle on cinn-sugar & bake them 😋😋😋
My mom too and sometimes with a little jelly or jam baked on with the dough.
My Grammy called them hinky-dinks!! ❤
YES!! My mom did that too, and that was what came to my mind. Another one she did with pie crust was to use a cookie cutter and cut out rounds, then use a donut cutter and put a ring of pastry around the round to form a tart, then she’d bake them and fill them with jam. My favorite was strawberry.
Our local baker would roll out his leftover pie dough into a large elephant ear shape and bake with the butter and cinnamon sugar. He sold them to adults for a quarter but gave the kids a free one❤
My Mom, too 💛
I can still smell the scent of walking past Orange Julius, and also hear the blenders.
Yes, I did a lot of research on the Recipe, it’s changed 25 times since the Brand has been Sold, there’s also about 50 versions of the Final recipe. It used to be 8oz fresh squeezed Orange Juice (NOT from a Bottle YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE THEM) then 1/4 tspoon Vanilla Extract, one Large Raw Egg and 8 0z. of Ice, into the Blender and blend until smooth. This was a Recipe from the 60’s when my Buddy’s Mom worked there.
I worked at Orange Julius with my friends 1982 through 1984 during high school, and it was the best time of my life! My dad and I still crave the burgers and fries with special seasoning salt. 😊💞
@pennyinaz I never had their Burgers or Fries, any idea what the special seasonings were?
My daughter‘s Girl Scout troop in the 70s, would hollow out a apple and then mix peanut butter and honey, and fill it, wrap it in aluminum foil and take it on hiking trips for fast energy and protein.
Girl Scouts have always been brilliant! I was one and what a blast it was. Thanks for the quick recipe. Interesting and delicious
My mom used to make koolaid popsicles and cinnamon toast was a staple in our house.
I’ve been burning the roof of my mouth off with pizza rolls since the 70s.
They are not as good as they once were.
@evalehde3869nothing is
I bite a hole in all the corners, cool off faster 😊. Still burn my mouth with sliced 🍕, can’t wait 😂
@AmyCrossley-xl2mbtrue
We made a beeline to the Orange Julius stand every time we went we the mall. Brain freeze in seconds. Great memories ❤❤
That onion dip, you can take it and put it in with the potato skins with the cheese and bacon I bet that’d be as good as what the sour cream is with it.
