Methi Kela Bhaji | मेथी केला भाजी | Khazana of Indian Recipes | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

A popular Gujarati dish, methi and ripe bananas cooked in wonderful flavours is a terrific way of combining 2 popular active ingredients as a main course meal.

Active ingredients

3 cups fresh fenugreek leaves (methi), finely chopped
3-4 ripe bananas, cut into thick roundels with the skin on
2-3 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
Salt to taste
1/2 tablespoon ginger-green chilli paste
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 teaspoons coriander powder
2 teaspoons cumin powder
Chapattis or rotis to serve


1. Heat the oil in a kadai. Add the mustard seeds. When they begin to splutter, add the methi leaves and salt and mix well. Prepare for 8-10 minutes.
2. Include ginger-green chilli paste. Stir-fry for a minute. Include turmeric powder, coriander and cumin powder. Mix well. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
3. Add banana roundels. Prepare covered on low heat for 2 minutes.
4. Serve hot with chappatis/rotis of your option.
