मसाला जीरू | Masala Jeeru | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

An extremely popular drink made roasted cumin seeds and spices! Topped with cooled drinking soda to make it carbonated and exciting!

1/4 cup cumin seeds (jeera).
10-12 black peppercorns, coarsely squashed.
3-4 cloves.
3/4 cup + 1 tsp sugar.
1/2 inch ginger, roughly sliced.
Black salt to taste.
Salt to taste.
1/4 tsp + 4 pinches of chaat masala.
A pinch of red chilli powder.
2 lemon wedges.
2 small lemons.
Ice cubes as required.
Drinking soda as required.

Technique.

1. Heat a nonstick pan. Include cumin seeds and roast on medium heat till they turn dark brown.
2. Eliminate 1 tablespoon cumin seeds and include black peppercorns, cloves and roast for a minute.
3. Add 3/4 cup sugar, 1 cup water, ginger and till sugar melts and the mixture thickens.
4. Transfer the roasted cumin seeds in a mortar. Add black salt, salt, 1/4 tsp chaat masala, red chilli powder and remaining sugar and crush coarsely.
5. Strain the ready jeera syrup.
6. Apply lemon on the rim of the glass and press onto the ready spice mix.
7. Add a part of the prepared syrup in each glass. Add black salt, salt and a pinch of chaat masala in each glass. Squeeze 1/2 lemon in each glass. Mix well.
8. Add ice and top up with the soda and stir.
9. Serve cooled.

  1. Syrup’s life is less than poweder’s. Better to make a powder and store and make it a drink whenever required.
